Episode 11 is heaven, featuring a host of inspiring young artists who have turned their passion into careers. Music video director Sammy Rawal and illustrator Juliana Neufeld are collaborators and BFFs who share the story of how they managed to get the coolest jobs ever. The creators of the beautifully designed and written Bad Day Magazine explain the process behind creating Toronto’s best homegrown arts and culture magazine. We were also lucky enough to chat with some of the directors and writers of plays featured in Summerworks. To cap off the evening, which was attended by a huge crowd for our first fundraiser, live shows were performed by two Toronto bands, The Darcys and Styrofoam Ones. juliana2 Juliana Neufeld is an illustrator, mixed media artist and painter, whose artwork graces editorialsskateboards, and record covers, as well as gallery walls. She recently illustrated a beautiful little collection of short stories by Vivek Shraya called God Loves Hair, and is the first Canadian advocate for Element Skateboards. sammyRawal Sammy Rawal is the youngest director on Revolver Film’s roster, and is making waves with his photography, graphic design, and music videos. Most recently, he directed the beautiful video for The New Pornographers’ Crash Years, and is also well-loved for his involvement as co-producer and resident DJ of Yes Yes Y’all. badday_shop_issue8 Bad Day Magazine brings together big hitters (this issue features Julie Doiron, Michael Snow and Ariel Pink; Jason Schwartzman is a big fan and past cover boy) with up-and-coming artists (such as previous LNB guest Tibi Tibi Neuspiel) from all cultural disciplines, both Canadian and international. Eva Michon, Jackie Linton and Colin Bergh work together to produce and design this quarterly arts and culture publication that is distributed internationally and features beautiful photography and design as well as engaging interviews and articles.
